Upcoming Event
Building Happiness With Earth
Sunday 14th January to Friday 26th january 2018
Exchange/Donation based workshop twelve days D'Urville Island Marlborough Sounds
Hello friends
The aim of this workshop is to learn, share, dance, teach, laugh, mix clay, sing, and let go but is not limited to that. We are giving a call out to bring friends together who haven’t yet met out here to help us with our project.
There are a couple small projects that are in need of some happy, muddy hands. One of them being a small structure made with a rock and earth bag foundation, Infilled with brush from the Manuka trees and a green roof using EPDM membrane. The frame of this structure was built by a group in a previous workshop.
You will learn how to recognize and test clay found on the land, how to prepare and apply the clay mixture to the walls with two to three different application layers. You will learn sculpting with the clay mix and mixing different colors. You will also learn ways to protect the plaster from the weather.
I have attended a course in Germany August 2016 learning Interior design with clay plaster earth and finishing plaster techniques using packaged products. Here I will show you how to use the materials straight from your own property or surrounding area to get to the same outcome.
Children of the island and local sounds area will be invited to join us for A Day in the Clay picnic day event where participants of the workshop will teach and guide the children on mixing clay, sculpting, painting and applying the plaster, giving you the participant, experience and practice to share your skills.
You will also learn that building with clay is fun with friends, the workshop is hands on.
Accommodation will be in tents, with several different sites to choose from.
